Birthday parties are pretty standard celebrations in this culture, but in some families, it's not the grown up birthday boy or girl who is honored, it's the mother. The people who celebrate the mother say that if it weren't for the mother, there would be no birthday to celebrate in the first place. This so true. My take on it is to celebrate both the person and the mother....
